MANGO MARKET CHAIN

MarChE is assisting small farmer mango producers in the South, Southeast and West. Linkages were identified and/or established between the grower groups and buyers, including JMB S.A., La FINCA, and F&L Société d’Exportation de Fruits et Légumes, Perry Export & Import and Agropak.

COCOA MARKET CHAIN

MarChE has established a training program for over 700 small cocoa producers in Dame Marie (Grand-Anse), a major cocoa producing area. MarChE coordinates with the DEED project, which has similar activities in the North.

CRAFTS MARKET CHAIN
Strong, steady increases in handicraft interventions marked MarChE’s 1st year with extraordinary advances being made in September and into October :there are 6 international consultants, 2 ATA employees from the Connecticut office, and 1 Haitian designer working in Haiti.

Coffee Market Chain

MarChE has ongoing activities the South, Southeast and Nippes; the area of Beaumont (Grand-Anse) is targeted for interventions in the near future due to its potential for high quality coffee production. Key players in the value chain were contacted, particularly the growers and the exporters.

NORTH TOURISM MARKET CHAIN
5 training events were held from February to June, benefiting over 100 people in the tourism sector, including managers and owners. Themes addressed were: Hy-giene and HACCP, Customer service and Hospitality. 2 events were organized in September in Cap Haitian for hotel and restaurant personnel on service and hospi-tality; both major challenges for tourism operators.

ESTEE LAUDER VETIVER EXPLORATION MISSION
Production and marketing opportunity were explored by MarChE for Vetiver oil with a joint mission (MarChE/ Estee Lauder/ Eco Venture) in August. As a result, links were established among processors and a potential buyer. It is expected that processors will modernize their plants to become more efficient in energy consumption.

GRANTS STATUS UPDATE
In the area of grants implementation MarChE has accomplished the followings: The Grants Management Team (GMT)1 reviewed one hundred five (105) concept paper's, totaling over thirty million dollars ($30,000,000), from which fifteen (15) were selected to submit a full proposal.

MSMEs SERVICES
CCG During the first year Caribbean Business Consulting experts developed with the assistance of an ITC specialist, a data base system on MSMEs to facilitate collection and sharing of information on SMEs benefiting from MarChE technical and training assistance in the Jacmel region. A data collection tool has been designed focusing on enterprises profile and key management functions accounting, finances, human re-sources, input supplies and markets.
